Jewelry Care Tip - How to clean my gemstone jewelry.
It's time for a new edition of the jewelry care series and it is also time to know how to really clean your jewelry, especially your gemstones.
At House of Zada, I love using gemstones in all my pieces. Many of the gemstones used are either semi-precious or natural. To help preserve your favorite piece for years to come, it is crucial to follow a proper cleaning technique.
When it comes to cleaning your jewelry, there are so many practices out there but it doesn't mean they are all correct. Let's talk about the whole baking soda and toothbrush idea. For years, people always told me to clean my jewelry that way and I did when I was young. Guess what? It definitely scratched my favorite gemstone pieces and even the metal around it. What made me think a toothbrush would do no damage to my jewelry is beyond me. The good news is, here is all that you need to know about gemstone jewelry cleaning and specifically handmade jewelry.
Gemstone pieces: Gemstone can be easily damaged if cleaned with the wrong solution or brushed too hard. The ideal & safest way to clean your gemstones:
1. Get a clean soft cloth.
2. Wet the cloth with warm water.
3. Wipe down each gemstone in your piece of jewelry by using a circular motion.
4. Dry the stones with a clean dry soft cloth or soft towel.
*For the metal parts of your jewelry, use a clean soft jewelry polishing cloth. DO NOT wet with water.
