Jewelry Care Tip - How to clean my gemstone jewelry.

It's time for a new edition of the jewelry care series and it is also time to know how to really clean your jewelry, especially your gemstones.

At House of Zada, I love using gemstones in all my pieces. Many of the gemstones used are either semi-precious or natural. To help preserve your favorite piece for years to come, it is crucial to follow a proper cleaning technique.

When it comes to cleaning your jewelry, there are so many practices out there but it doesn't mean they are all correct. Let's talk about the whole baking soda and toothbrush idea. For years, people always told me to clean my jewelry that way and I did when I was young.  Guess what?  It definitely scratched my favorite gemstone pieces and even the metal around it. What made me think a toothbrush would do no damage to my jewelry is beyond me. The good news is, here is all that you need to know about gemstone jewelry cleaning and specifically handmade jewelry.

Gemstone pieces: Gemstone can be easily damaged if cleaned with the wrong solution or brushed too hard. The ideal & safest way to clean your gemstones:

1. Get a clean soft cloth.

2. Wet the cloth with warm water.

3. Wipe down each gemstone in your piece of jewelry by using a circular motion.

4. Dry the stones with a clean dry soft cloth or soft towel.

*For the metal parts of your jewelry, use a clean soft jewelry polishing cloth. DO NOT wet with water.

New Creations - Natural Amethyst Edition

One thing I love about being a small jewelry designer, is the time that I get to personally pick out some of the gemstones for my pieces. Recently, throughout my adventures, I came across this amazing, asymmetrical and unique natural amethyst gemstone. With different shades of purple and a bit of brown to add the ultimate twist, this piece is guaranteed to make you stand out. The downfall? There's only one available!

New Creation - Pendant Obsession

At the House of Zada, I believe that pendant necklaces are timeless pieces and are always in style.  This season though, they are really in style.  Everyone loved my African jade pendant so much that it sold out. The good news is that I added 2 new colors for all the pendant necklace lovers. One is a lapis blue gemstone pendant with a deep blue/purplish tint. The second is of course turquoise with brownish veins for the perfect embellishment. No matter which one you choose, be sure that it will bring lots of compliments and plenty of feel good vibes. Do you love pendant pieces as much as I do?

New Handmade Creation: Red Calcite Natural Gemstone Statement Necklace

I was trying a new technique for this week's creation only to realize I don't have all the necessary materials. Very disappointing. The good news is that I just got these stones in and I just wanted to create a piece that is bold yet versatile enough to wear all year round. Voila! This new natural red calcite gemstone necklace is very heavy in statement making with 3 large gemstones hanging from these lightweight gold chains to give off that glam factor. What do you think? Do you see yourself wearing this?

Autism Awareness Custom Bracelets

Last week, I was approached by the co-founder of MYGOAL autism foundation to make autism awareness bracelets as giveaways for a special event. It was such a huge honor for me as I was involved with the same cause and same group last year. Here are 3 different gemstone charm bracelets I created to help keep the awareness going in a fashionable way. If you or anyone would like a bracelet, they are just $15 a piece no matter which one you choose and bulk discounts are available.

New Creation Wednesdays

New creation Wednesdays are back and better than ever. I wanted to make sure I provide the most chunk and twists that I can in my new pieces. This is my latest addition to the line. An extra large african jade green gemstone suspended from double layered thick gold chains with an asymmetrical twist to help you turn heads no matter wherever you go. Right on with the pendant trend for this Spring/Summer 2014. What do you think?
