Pantone Winter Color of the Year 2018-19

Every year, I wait for the moment the power house, Pantone, announces the color of the year. Why? It is time to play...with my jewelry beads that is. The good news? House of Zada is based on a timeless era where the colors never really go out of style, but it gets even more exciting when you see that your line already reflects THE color of the year.

So what is main color for Winter 2018-2019? Ultra violet.

Historically, the color purple has been associated with the sign of power, royalty and great personalities. The pop icon Prince made the color purple synonymous with his name reflecting his individuality and creative genius. Cleopatra's Egyptian palace, couches and even body was covered with it. So why is it so unique?

The history of the color dates back thousands of years when it was extracted from a rare shellfish. At the time, technology didn't exist and you couldn't replicate or imitate many things. The use of the color extracted was sold to the very rich and reserved for the powerful figures. Throughout the years, emperors and painters continued to use it as a sign of hierarchy, rich culture and art.

Ultra violet is a shade of purple with a blue undertone. The beauty? it signifies imagination, innovation and a color for the curious. The night sky appears completely blue to the human eye, but it actually has lots of purple. Just like the sky represents mystery, so does the freedom in the color ultra violet.

What Happened to Your Jewelry?

Did you just stop doing it? Do you not enjoy it anymore? Was it not doing well? These are the questions I keep hearing over and over since my hiatus which is almost for 2 years now.

The good news? I still love my gemstones and will never get sick of it and I will continue to grow your obsession for turquoise jewels. The bad news?  The initial fall was due to health reasons in my family that have been thankfully resolved for some time now.  One thing for sure, what this hiatus made me do, is take a step back and look at everything that I was making.

Everything I knew was self taught through trial and error and countless videos. Despite being featured in 3 major magazines, I felt there was room to grow to bring you something truly unique. For that reason, I decided to enroll and complete a jewelry design course based out of NYC to help me create your next favorite jewelry piece.

The course took some time (way more than the 170 hours listed), my projects got lost in the mail a few times, I had to redo some others to show proficiency, but it was all worth it!

So what's next? I am super excited to bring some new skills and style aesthetic to my designs to help you truly stand out. More statement looks for the fast paced girl in your life.

Thanks to each one of you for always pushing me and believing in me :-) Exciting new arrivals coming very soon!

Pantone Color of the Year 2016- Serenity & Rose Quartz

Have you heard? It is the first time ever that Pantone announced not just one color for a new year but TWO. What does that mean for you? Two new ways for you to be in style for this season. Maybe pinks aren't your favorite but blues are, no need to worry.

At House of Zada, I am very excited because I already include a lot of darker blue hues in my line, but this color is so fresh and timeless. The best part is that the two colors flow together seamlessly. Combine variations of these two colors in your next eyeshadow look, dress, handbag and of course jewels.

Check out one of my newest arrivals combining these two colors. Guaranteed you will love it. See for yourself here

Meet my new wire-worked collection - Spiral Collection

Did you ever ask yourself what makes you feel powerful? Is it the money, is it the new car, is it the fancy bag? For me, it is my bold jewelry. Since I was very young, that's all I ever wanted and still, all I ever want. They say, give a girl the right heels and she can conquer the world. I will change that and say "give a girl the right jewelry and she can conquer the world." A bold necklace wrapped around your neck for everyone to see as soon as they look at you or an earring swaying as you move to grab attention without the time and effort to create a statement making look. I love it!

As far as I am concerned, no look is ever complete without some jewelry and nothing gives me more confidence and assurance than my colorful and unique jewelry. It is how you make a $5 t-shirt literally look like a million bucks.

For that reason, I am so proud to introduce you to my new collection. 100% handcrafted and wire worked jewelry by yours truly. It is bold, it is fresh, it is modern yet carries a hint of heritage in each piece linked together by this spiral wirework. The ones who started it all in Ancient Egypt where jewelry literally symbolized and defined wealth, social class and power.

With all the different variations, there's plenty for everyone to love. Whether you want to show off the bold spiral as part of your earring or the delicate touches on the clasp of your bracelet, you are guaranteed to make a statement.

Check out the first freshly made pieces here.

Jewelry Care Tip - How to clean my gemstone jewelry.

It's time for a new edition of the jewelry care series and it is also time to know how to really clean your jewelry, especially your gemstones.

At House of Zada, I love using gemstones in all my pieces. Many of the gemstones used are either semi-precious or natural. To help preserve your favorite piece for years to come, it is crucial to follow a proper cleaning technique.

When it comes to cleaning your jewelry, there are so many practices out there but it doesn't mean they are all correct. Let's talk about the whole baking soda and toothbrush idea. For years, people always told me to clean my jewelry that way and I did when I was young.  Guess what?  It definitely scratched my favorite gemstone pieces and even the metal around it. What made me think a toothbrush would do no damage to my jewelry is beyond me. The good news is, here is all that you need to know about gemstone jewelry cleaning and specifically handmade jewelry.

Gemstone pieces: Gemstone can be easily damaged if cleaned with the wrong solution or brushed too hard. The ideal & safest way to clean your gemstones:

1. Get a clean soft cloth.

2. Wet the cloth with warm water.

3. Wipe down each gemstone in your piece of jewelry by using a circular motion.

4. Dry the stones with a clean dry soft cloth or soft towel.

*For the metal parts of your jewelry, use a clean soft jewelry polishing cloth. DO NOT wet with water.

Give The Gift of Uniqueness This Mother's Day - Handmade Jewelry

Another celebration is upon us but this one is very special, Mother's day. On May 10th, we get to honor the women who literally fed us, held our hands and bathed us for pretty much the entire time until we can do it on our own. They are selfless women who sacrificed so much and continue to do so because you will always be their little son or daughter no matter how old you are.

Now it is your time to celebrate her and there's no better way than giving a unique gift. Handcrafted jewelry reflects the vision of its designer that is not mass produced to maintain its authenticity & uniqueness. Although you can find plenty of pieces on my site, there are a few that are literally one of a kind and can be hers and ONLY hers. Also, don't forget to check out these guilt-free handmade under $100 gifts.

Breast Cancer Fundraiser Jewelry Party

As many of you know, I love fundraising for causes such as Breast Cancer and I am so fortunate that I can combine my two passions into one by hosting a Breast Cancer fundraising party. I am so fortunate for all the family and friends that look forward to this event, now 2nd annual, and help me give to great causes by donating 10% of all purchases to the society. It was a night filled of .great company, even better conversations and of course plenty of jewels. Here are some of the pictures and some of the friends who help me day after day to make it happen.

Harper's BAZAAR UK Feature

2014 has been an incredible year for me as I see my handmade line flourish and more of my ideas coming to life. Not only that, but this marks my third major press feature. This time it is Harper's BAZAAR edition and their favorite picks for this Fall/Winter. This features my lapis lazuli teardrop necklace which is one of my favorite creations because it truly reflects my Egyptian heritage.
